Don’t let the cold keep you away. Thursday night at 5:30 (January 12) The Arts Center welcomes anyone interested in local history to the opening reception for Women Behind the Plow. Yes, the forecast says to expect below zero temperatures but, lets face it, we can’t just hold up inside and hibernate! I think of the hardy women whose lives are described in the exhibit panels and I know they worked hard in wintry conditions. Attending an exhibit reception, arriving in a warm car, enjoying the company of others and delicious snacks (provided by the James Valley Chapter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society) isn’t hard–it’s luxury compared to what entertainment these women and their families experienced during the their lives.
The stories will warm your heart and bring a chuckle to your belly. I read about things I’d never heard of and the before-and-after photos of the women are wonderful. Look at their “eyes” and you will recognize these women from childhood to elderhood–its amazing.
