If the forecast holds, this weekend will have stellar weather for the Pekin Days Art Show. If you haven’t attended, this is the year to go. It’s only 1.5 hour drive from Jamestown and worth the trip. You can see the state’s largest artshow full of regional artists, there are arts activities for you try, parades to watch and music to hear.
The event transforms the town of population 80 to a mecca for artists. Here is some history:
Pekin Days Art Show committee was formed in 1994. After repeated successful art exhibits during the annual Pekin Days celebration and a growing interest from all Nelson County residents, the committee applied for and received a 501c3 non-profit status under the name of Nelson County Arts Council in 1999. Today the NCAC produces the largest judged art show and sales in North Dakota, displaying artists’ work from ND, SD, MN, WY, CO, MT and Canada.
The artist who is currently showing in The Arts Center’s gallery, Guillermo Guardia aka “Memo,” will be doing an interactive clay demonstration so the trip will afford you another opportunity to visit with this artist. Remember Jon Offutt’s mobile glass blowing studio that we set up in the Wonder Bar’s patio? Jon will delight the crowd with demonstrations on both Saturday and Sunday at 10 am – 4 pm.
Wondering where Pekin is located? Here’s a map and a schedule.
