I walked into The Arts Center’s gallery today and was wowed by the almost-complete stage setting for this week’s community theater production of Neil Simon’s comedy Rumors. To say the 2nd ACT Community Theatre group is setting the bar up a notch would be an understatement…no, I’d say they raised the bar a foot or two!
They enlisted the help of Ken Gilbertson to design and build what I’m guessing is the Arts Center’s best-ever stage setting. Gilbertson is a musician and I assume like many fellow artists (like my hubby) he works as carpenter/contractor to make ends meet. We first connected with Gilbertson when he saved us by providing technical expertise during the first Caravanserai performance in October and when 2nd ACT found itself without a set builder-Gilbertson stepped up to the plate and volunteered his time to build the Rumors set. He and his friend Mike Field made quick work of the project and left the gallery in fine shape. This pleases me as the gallery manager since it means our visitors aren’t distracted by a mess and the art can shine through. Thanks go to Zimmerman’s Furniture, Infinity Lumber, ProBuild, Stutsman Glass, LeeAnne’s Bridal & Prom Bliss, and Don’s House of Flowers and especially Ken Gilbertson Homes & Remodeling and Mike Fields James Valley Home Improvement for their contributions to make a top-notch theatrical set for our local actors! And guess what…next time, we will even have a stage curtain!
Rumors tickets are still available for Thursday and Saturday but if you want to attend-let us know immediately by calling 701-251-2496.
And put this on your Calendar: March 22nd you can come see and support set builder Ken Gilbertson who will perform with the band – The Ringers – on The Arts Center stage, 7:30 pm. Tickets at the door cost $8 for member / $10 everyone else.
