Last week our newest addition to the Arts Center family was our new raku kiln, this week we introduce you to our newest staff member – Jessica Christy.
Jessica takes on the position of Education Coordinator. After some time, we finally have an artist in the position. I think this is good since she understands art processes, mediums and brings energy and enthusiasm to the staff. She is organized, professional and willing/able to hit the ground running.
Jessica was destined to be an artist…daughter of Linda Whitney (art faculty at Valley City State University) and David Christy (artist and designer). She began exhibiting early while still an undergraduate and was one of the few “young” artists to show solo in the Arts Center’s gallery. She went on to get an MFA in printmaking from UND and her work continues to challenge and force dialog as it addresses important social issues. Check out her website at jessicachristy.com
Jessica will be organizing and teaching classes, coordinating artist residencies and arts after school. She will be the go-to person for all educational programs. Stop in and meet Jessica–make her welcome. We are lucky to have her expertise and look forward to having her join Jamestown’s art community.
Note: The Arts After School program begins on September 10 and flyers are available. Parents are already registering their kids, so don’t delay. Remember this program is open to students in grades 3-5. AAS-FLYER_Fall_2012
